SPS Corporation Group, one of Australia’s largest wholesalers and distributors of picture frame mouldings and associated products as well as Recreational Vehicle electrical and timber components, were previously reliant on an ERP solution that offered a limited range of functions. With ever-changing technology and increasingly fragmented customer touchpoints, SPS Corporation needed a platform that would adapt to current processes and evolve as the company grew. SPS Corporation upgraded to Microsoft Dynamics AX and CRM (now known as Microsoft Dynamics 365) and now delivers exceptional customer experiences based on knowledge and trust.
Family-owned since inception, SPS Corporation has grown from humble beginnings as a timber milling business in 1966 to a national wholesaler and distributor of picture frame mouldings and associated products including artwork and home décor, caravan timber and electrical components and property management. Today, it has grown to over 100 employees and continually strives to provide excellent products and customer service.
“SPS Corporation is always looking for opportunities to grow revenue, provide efficient and reliable information to our staff and management,” says Andrew Gray, chief financial officer, SPS Corporation. “Technology is the centre point to enable this growth. We realised that our future lay in the smart use of data, to create more-intelligent distribution processes, to reduce costs, and to provide more innovative ways to meet customer needs.”
Using Microsoft Dynamics and TargIT Analytics, a business intelligence package, SPS Corporation has eliminated information silos and provides the sales team and senior management with reports in the field. The sales team can access Dynamics from anywhere to quickly assess customer status and update information as needed. “We empowered our sales team with iPads that access information from Microsoft Dynamics. Employees can now record new information themselves, which is not only more practical, it also leads to higher data quality,” adds Gray.
The company’s picture framing business has also integrated an online ordering website supported by k-eCommerce within Dynamics AX, allowing the organisation to offer a multi-channel experience to its customers.
With a group of interrelated businesses, SPS Corporation must manage the prosaic and complex job of warehouse management to deliver orders, receive shipments and run the businesses efficiently. Gray explains, “The combination of multiple businesses with diverse product lines and a high volume of transactions presents a challenge for the business.
“In the past, our warehouse management processes were manual and time consuming. It took a team of staff to post all the invoices from orders that had been processed during the day. Our picking and labelling was completed manually by warehouse staff, and that led to a loss of time and productivity.”
SPS Corporation installed an RF solution to manage its warehouse operations in sync with Microsoft Dynamics AX. Immediately, this reduced the manual tasks that staff had to perform on a daily basis – from printing picking lists to manually generating freight labels and consignment notes. “Our staff can now focus on higher value work, and the system manages the rest. The mobile RF devices allow staff to see information on the physical location of inventory on their device, package labels and consignment notes are automatically printed and the warehouse managers can see the status of all shipments in one form in Dynamics AX,” explains Gray.
Dynamics AX also allows SPS Corporation to control back orders based on different requirements of each business, for various item groups. “Thanks to Dynamics AX, we can free up employees to focus on work that adds value to the business. And, the business has clear visibility into everything that’s been processed and everything that’s in the queue—with almost no manual data entry needed—which makes everyone more confident,” says Gray.
SPS Corporation researched several partners with relevant experience in Microsoft Dynamics and decided to partner with Sable37 to bring their investment to life. “The team at Sable37 is highly trained, experienced and reliable. Our relationship with Sable37 began in 2008 and has been strong through these years.
“What gave us great confidence is that the Sable37 team understood what we wanted to achieve and have been a trusted partner in implementing the best practice solutions that meet the needs of our businesses, now and in the future.”
“We’re committed to expanding our online and IT environment to meet the ever-evolving needs of customers and our partners are crucial to our progress and success in this environment,” Gray concludes.
